SESAME STREET’S GORDON & ELMO JOIN WONDERFALL CELEBRATION AT BEACHES RESORTS IN JAMAICA
~Celebrated Sesame Street Duo Heads to Beaches Boscobel and Beaches Negril for Special Live Performances as Part of Company’s WonderFALL Celebration~
Back by popular demand, Gordon & Elmo are lighting up the stage at Beaches Resorts.
Last week, Gordon & Elmo – one of Sesame Street’s most popular, long-standing duos – packed their bags, said goodbye to 123 Sesame Street and jetted off to Beaches Resorts in Jamaica to celebrate the resort company’s WonderFALL season. A special time of year at all three Beaches Resorts in Jamaica, WonderFALL is brimming with special events and activities geared toward the preschool set.
Delighting guests both young and old, Gordon & Elmo graced the stage at Beaches Boscobel on September 26, 2008 and Beaches Negril on September 27 and 28, 2008. Through a series of sing-along songs and funny exchanges, Gordon & Elmo drew big laughs and smiles from the crowd. While certainly a WonderFALL highlight, The Live Show with Gordon & Elmo was only one component of the WonderFALL celebration.
In addition to exhilarating Sesame Street stage shows and appearances by the rest of the beloved Sesame Street gang, including Zoe, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster and Grover, WonderFALL has a host of other surprises in store for visiting families including Family Learning Adventures, Beaches Dive-in Movies, “Baby You’re a Star” Photo Contest, A ColorFALL Crayola Birthday Bash, and more!
Now that school is back in session, WonderFALL is the perfect time for families with young children to book their fall vacation at Beaches Resorts. Making it as easy as 1-2-3, guests who book a seven-night stay at Beaches Resorts for travel through November 4, 2008 will save up to 45 percent off regular rack rates and receive their first night free. Rates begin at $3,162 for a seven-night stay for a family of four.
BEACHES RESORTS HOSTS ‘HEALTHY HABITS FOR LIFE’ TRAINING SESSION FOR JAMAICA’S TEACHERS

On September 8, 2008, Beaches Resorts, in partnership with Sesame Workshop, hosted a ‘Healthy Habits for Life’ training session to help educate teachers in Western Jamaica on the best ways to communicate healthy eating and exercise habits to students. The session is the first in a series of training seminars launched this year to arm early childhood and primary school teachers in Jamaica with the latest educational tools, tips and techniques.
“The success and future of this beautiful country hinges on its youth,” said Adam Stewart, CEO of Beaches Resorts. “Although a private enterprise, Beaches Resorts is still a resident and citizen of Jamaica and as such, must do its part to help elevate the local community and empower Jamaica’s future. These teacher training sessions are just one component of a multitude of outreach programs to help ensure the local community has access to education, medical care, vocational training and more.”
The one-hour workshop, which coincided with International Literacy Day, took place at Beaches Negril Resort & Spa with more than 30 area teachers in attendance. Led by Mrs. Takeima Bunche-Smith, director of content for Sesame Workshop, the seminar highlighted unique methods in which teachers can communicate healthy lifestyle choices to their young students, including utilizing a Sesame Street DVD where children’s favorite furry friends help differentiate between ‘sometimes foods’ and ‘anytime foods.’
To underscore the importance of regular exercise, popular Sesame Street character Zoe made a special appearance, engaging all participants in a fun, dance exercise. “When it comes to education, sometimes a new perspective is the right perspective,” said Ms. Loraine Myrie, teacher at Whitehall Basic and Preparatory School. “This training seminar helped us reach into the minds of young students, pinpointing the most effective ways to speak to them about healthier lifestyle habits. We are fortunate to have access to one of the most proven and innovative educational organizations in the world.”
The teacher training seminars are a testament to Beaches Resorts’ ongoing active involvement in the communities in which it operates. As a mandate, all four Beaches Resorts located in Jamaica and Turks and Caicos are required to execute local outreach programs including adopting at least one educational institution, and all have made environmental awareness a key component of their efforts.
