Sandals Royal Bahamian - 12/12/2008

 Review by FAYETTE

My husband and I just arrived home from 4 lovely days at the Royal Bahamian. Before I sink back into reality, I thought I would review the last few days.

I was a bit disappointed that the room was not ready when we arrived but we did have an early arrival flight so perhaps that was the reason. We were, however, offered cool towels and refreshments,(including the BEST chocolate chip cookies) while we waited. We decided to have lunch at the Spices buffet---sat outside in very comfy chairs, and enjoyed every morsal of food......I had a fresh salad--with great veggies and dessert consisted of many different fresh fruits--as well as pastries. Hot entrees were also available but we did not partake.
Monday evening we ate at the Baccarat (French) Restaurant. I had the special of the day which was delicious sea bass. My husband had ravioli with shrimp and lobster. Both entrees were predeeded by apetizers, salad, and soup. Desserts followed. During the meal, the waiter offered us any beverages (and as many) as we wanted.
After dinner we met up with old friends and talked until it was time for bed--although there was entertainment if we wanted to see a show or sing songs in the piano bar.
Tuesday we went back to the buffet for breakfast and had delicious white omelets, fresh fruit and extremely good coffee.
We then decided to go on a city/shopping tour--even though we had been in Nassau several times before--we saw sights we had never seen. We stopped on Bay Street and were given 3 hours to walk around. The old straw market had burned dowm and is being rebuilt--but there was a make-shift one there which was fun to walk through. After buying my grandchildren some gifts, we just took in the views and waited for the bus to return.
We went back to Sandals for lunch and ate at their Royal Cafe ( a beachside cafe with salads and grilled items). My hamburger and salad were great. After reading and resting and taking pictures, we went back and got ready for dinner which we had at the Crystal Room. I had one of the best pieces of prime rib ever..cooked perfectly. At 10pm--a special treat--a chocolate buffet---a must see---and what a treat!!
Wednesday morning--after spending 2 hours in the gym (a wonderful modern exercise room with state of the art machines--facing the water)---I had breakfast again at the buffet (why change something that's perfect)....did more reading, relaxing, picture taking, and actually watching 2 couples getting amrried, we had lunch at the Pizza restaurant---right off the beach. Personal pizzas included pepperoni, plain and yummy vegetable.
Wednesday night we ate at a banquet hall which was just lovely.

Sandals is special for their service. You ask a question or directions and the staff takes you personally to that location. Maid service was excellent. We stayed in the top room (concierge) of the Manor Bldg--and although it was a lovely oceanfront room with an gorgeous view--I would prefer any room in the Windsor Bldg (where I stayed 4 years ago when I was there last). The Manor Bldg is a bit old--and even though it has been refurbished--I prefer the newer, more modern interior of the Windsor. Our friends had a butler room in the Royal Village--but they said it was a bit farther from the pool area and there is no ocean view at all. They too said they would have preferred the Windsor Bldg.

Activities included pool games, volleyball, snorkling trips, watersports, excursions (free) to their offshore island, billiards, shuffleboard, etc. We enjoyed the activity of relaxing, best of all.

So, whether old or young, saying your first vows or renewing old ones..Sandals Royal Bahamian is an excellent choice of a resort. If you'd like to contact me about anything, please feel free to do so at fayette@tripguy.com
