Sandals Halcyon Beach - 10/12/2007

 Review by FAYETTE

SANDALS HALCYON

In October, I was fortunate enough to visit Sandals Halcyon.  The resort is a floral paradise. Because of its smaller size (Sandals Regency and Grande are much larger) in St Lucia, guests can experience true personal service.

The restaurants there are lovely—especially the PIER RESTAURANT which is located on a pier which extends into the Caribbean. Guests from the other Sandals frequently come to Halcyon to eat there.  The wonderful part about St Lucia is that when you stay at one of the resorts, you can “play at all three”.

There is nightly entertainment, which includes live shows, beach parties, guest/staff talent night, piano playing, and karaoke.  Of course, just sitting in a lounge, having a drink, and meeting other guests, is always a lot of fun too.

The land and water sports are about the same as all of the other Sandals in St Lucia, Jamaica, Antigua, or Nassau.

For golf, you need to go to the 9 hole golf course at the Regency. However, that is only a 15 minute FREE van ride. The golf course is a bit challenging. Caddies are $5.00—golf is free—but remember to bring your own balls—as they charge you $1.00 to buy a ball—and you might lose quite a number of them.

We watched a wedding taking place and it was very romantic. There are various locations where one can select to have the wedding. We watched one right on the beach.

The rooms were a bit old, but I was told that they plan on refurbishing in the very near future—and who stays in their room that long anyway?

There is a banquet and conference center but I didn’t see any activity going on while we were there.

The resort is about 10 minutes from the George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) and about 90 minutes from UVF (where we flew into). Ninety minutes sounds a lot but we had a driver (Mel) who made the ride very pleasant as he didn’t stop talking the whole time—either telling us history, gossip, or information about the island—and also answering our questions.

We enjoyed the trip—because we’re never disappointed when we go to a Sandals.
