Sandals Whitehouse - 3/19/2009

 Review by SHERRI

I was lucky enough to be able to visit Sandals Whitehouse this past March from the 16th-19th. I flew with Air Jamaica out of Philly with not a problem at all, non stop, no baggage fees, free meals, and free champagne. Will definetly fly them again. Arriving in Montego Bay there was quite a line at immigrations, about a half hour wait, but luggage was a breeze. As I made my way out I was escorted to the Sandals and Beaches lounge where they took my bags for me and invited me into the lounge for a drink while I waited for the next bus out, which was about 5 minutes.

The ride to Whitehouse was about an hour and 15 minutes over the mountains. Our driver stopped about 45 minutes into the ride for a drink at a roadside bar/restaurant. When we arrived at Whitehouse it was like arriving at an oasis in the middle of nowhere. It was beautifully landscaped and we where greeted with cool hand towels by the friendly staff. They took our names and quickly escorted us to the concierge lounge for preferred check in. Personally, after experienceing the Suite Concierge Program, I would not book any room catagory that is lower than concierge. I felt spoiled and special! I had a penthouse honeymoon beachfront concierge room on the 4th floor of the Italian Village with a Mahogany king size bed, sitting area, balcony with furniture and great view of beach and ocean. When booking a concierge room this is what you will enjoy:

  • Dedicated concierge from 8am-10pm to assist with requests including island tours, car rentals, and just about anything you need
  • Continental breakfast and room service from 7am-10pm (which I fully took advantage of all mornings and a couple of evenings)
  • Preferred check-in with champagne upon arrival
  • Amenity kit, personalized welcome letter in room/suite upon arrival
  • In-Suite bars with scotch, gin, vodka, rum, beer, red & white wine, champagne and assorted soft drinks
  • Use of his/her plush cloth robes

This resort is located on the unspoiled south-west coast on the southern shore and consists of 50 acres. There is alot of room to be by yourself and relax and get away from everyone. The buildings are divided into three "villages", Italian, Dutch, and French, with the Italian being closer to the main pool and the French being the furthest. But the French and Dutch buildings have their own pools and bars. All the rooms and suites here have a beach &/or ocean view. They also offer 32 butler suites, in which you will have a butler to cater to your every whim.

The beach here is VERY long and beautiful. Great for long walks and jogging. There were starfish everywhere.  Plenty of chairs and shade if you want it, with lots of beach activities if you want more action. Glass bottom boat, snorkeling, Padi scuba diving, wind surfing, hobie cats, kayaks, aquatrikes, jet skiing, basketball, darts, board games, pool tables, outdoor chess, shuffle board, table tennis, day &  night tennis, volleyball, and squash are all included of course. They have 4 pools and 4 whirlpools.

With 7 restaurants and 6 bars, including a swim-up bar at the main 12,465 sq. ft. pool, you can always find something to eat or drink whatever the time of day. My best meal was at Eleanor's, filet and lobster, cooked to perfection with excellent service. It was very popular, so make sure you get a reservation for this restaurant early!

To soften the blow of having to come back home to Delaware and 50 degree weather, I spoiled myself by going to the Red Lane Spa. I had a seaweed scrub that left my skin baby soft for three days. It is a beautiful spa with professional, nice people that work there. I wish I had another day, I would have gotten a facial.

There are a few things that I liked most at Sandals Whitehouse. The beach was the best, the huge main pool with swim-up bar, and my concierge room with the view and amenities that made me feel special. The food was good, the people nice, and the resort was clean. The only thing I wish was better about  Sandals Whitehouse, was that I wish it was closer to the airport!

Please don't hesistate to contact me about details, rates/specials on this resort, I have plenty of pictures to share too!
