Atlantis - 1/4/2008

 Review by KIM MITCHELL

This was our second time returning to the Atlantis in Nassau Bahamas. We went last year in early December and stayed in the Beach tower. The resort is amazing. We loved it so much my husband and I decided to treat each other for Christmas again this year.

We loved the Atlantis last year, the overall experience was fantastic. You never need to leave the resort. There are several dining choices, comedy club, movie theater, casino, sea life/aquariums and much more. There is something to do for all ages. We did feel that once we returned to our room in the Beach tower we felt like we were in the Holiday inn. The rooms were ample and clean but the decor was very blah. But we were never in the room so it wasn't much of a concern to us.

This year we returned to Atlantis again. They were running so many specials and we were able to get the Coral Tower for even cheaper than what we paid last year for the beach. The Coral is more centrally located and the room seemed a bit fresher in my opinion. I woulnd't exactly say it was a huge upgrade, but none the less we were okay with it.

The dining is exceptional. We've been to a lot of the places to eat dinner over our last few trips. We knew what we were in for when we booked. Dinner can easily cost a couple $100+ for dinner and drinks. We like to drink a few cocktails with our dinners and had budgeted for that expense. The Breakfast buffet was not that great in my opinion. No one can really screw up breakfast but I didn't think the Vegas prices were worth the experience. There is a Jamba juice in the Marina and bagel/coffee carts in the hotel lobby (even that is outrageous). We love Luciano's outside of the resort, it's the one place where you can actually get outside dining at night by the water. It was well worth the short cab ride over the bridge.

The service: It really depends on where you are, I found most people to be very friendly. However I must warn you that My mother was rushed into the hospital on our 2nd night and my family had tried to contact me for an emergency. And the hotel stated they had no way of getting in touch with me besides leaving a message in our room. They have no PA system. One would have thought they would have looked to see if we had a dinner reservation (which we did). They will not go out of their way for you. But I must mention the night manager was empathetic and allowed me to use their office PCs to check for outgoing flights at 1:00am.

I would probably not return to the Atlantis in the near future. We didn't pay much to get there because I was able to use my travel agent resources but the $$ spent down there could be used toward a different destination.
