Hi Crissy,
As for the honeymoon, both Beth and I thought Calabash Cove was awesome. We'd definitely recommend the Cottages over the other suites at the resort. The swim-up suite was nice, but the cottages were outstanding. Only the bedroom is air conditioned in the cottages, but the breeze is nice, and the fans do a very good job. We also found the AC in the cottage bedroom to be better than the one in the swim up suite.
We thought the food was great too. The only other place we have stayed outside the US is the Aventura Spa Palace in Mexico, and we thought the food at Calabash was significantly better than our experience there (with exception to the fresh guacamole and salsa they served in Mexico). We ordered room service a lot, and the room service menu can get old after awhile. However, they offer more options at the restaurant and pool bar if you go there instead of getting room service. The dinner menu was good, had several options, and had multiple specials everyday. The only thing on the menu we didn't like was a couple appetizers with crab in them - I think this is only because we are spoiled Marylanders though :)
All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The bartenders at the pool bar were awesome, we had a great time with them. They would also walk down to the beach to take drink orders during the day. The atmosphere was good too. It is a small resort, which both Beth and I enjoyed. If you wanted to stay secluded, avoid people, and just be with each other, you could easily do so. However, if you wanted to be more social, there is room for that as well. There was typically always a small crowd at the pool bar every afternoon. The beach was never packed, usually just 2 or 3 couples down there and there are plenty of chairs and shade. The restaurant bar would have a good crowd of people almost everynight as well - the owner would show up occassionally too.
The beach was nice, and like I said, never crowded. There is not much in the way of snorkeling off the beach though. You can see some crabs and fish around the rocks at the pier - otherwise, you have to kayak out to a spot in the bay to a better snorkeling spot.
The resort offers all types of excursions (many of which are not listed on their website). I know I tried to pre-book them many of them earlier through a few companies (I was probably just very anxious), but this really wasn't necessary at all. Picking the excursions and setting them up was a breeze. We did a catamaran day sail, and hiked one of the Piton mountains. The catamaran day sail was very fun, and we highly recommend it. The Piton Trek was fun as well, but very, very strenuous. Our guide said around 70% of the people that do the trek don't make it to the top. If you hike regularly and/or are in pretty good shape, I would definitely recommend the tour (the view is awesome at the top). Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend attempting the climb.
The only complaint we would make is about the mosquitos. I wouldn't even consider this a complaint - we knew there would be mosquitos there, and that we would get bitten, so not really a huge deal. Bug spray worked pretty well, and we brought along a citronella candle on our carry-on luggage which we used in the evening and night time out on our cottage deck (this seemed to work pretty well). As you can imagine, there were mosquitos all over the island, so this isn't just a Calabash Cove issue.
The massages we got were awesome (again, we cannot thank you enough for the coupons!!!). We don't have a lot of experience to properly evaluate the massages, but we can say they were significantly better than the ones we got in Mexico. The ladies were very, very, very nice also.
Thanks for all your help setting up our honeymoon, it truly was a blast. Again, if you need anything else, please let me know.
-Chris
