Thanks for booking our Windstar cruise. I am generally not a fan of cruises, and will probably only take a few on a very select basis.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the Windstar. It was small, the people were all very friendly, and the service was terrific. The food was very good, with too much to eat. Most of the main dishes at dinner were excellent with the stand-outs being the osso bucco, the short ribs, the duck breast and the steak. The fishes were ok, the tuna very good. The sashimi appetizers one night were a highlight. The breakfasts and lunches provided either a buffete or sit-down service with some very good dishes. The wine list was fairly extensive and reasonably priced.
The rooms on board Windstar were 188 sq ft but were organized in such a way that it felt larger. No problem putting away all of our stuff. Shower was terrific. There was a flat screen TV and the ship provided DVDs and I-Pods at no additional cost. We did not use any of that.
Due to the size of the Windstar ship, there were not a lot of activities as there might be on large ships. This was ok with me. We used the spa for a massage and a facial; they were ok, not great. Otherwise we just hung around the pool, the size of a tub, and read.
The casino was small, two blackjack tables and some slots. Half of the slots were broken. The dealers were delightful and the games were fun, no high stakes.
We took a number of the shore excursions. The zip-line was the highlight. Another trip into the Costa Rican rain forest was also very good. The trip in Nicaragua was long, but for me, excellent. The guide was very knowledgable. It covered a volcano, a market and a city. Other participants did not like this trip due to its length and the poverty we saw. I found it educational. The guides in all the tours were very good.
On the last day the ship docked at a wonderful beach and provided a barbecue lunch. This was another highlight of the trip.
Let me know if there is any other specifics I can provide and thanks again for your assistance.
