I wanted to let you know about our wonderful experience with your agent, Debra Kay. She booked a cruise for me, my mother, sister, and SIL with RCI on Voyager of the Seas departing on 2/3/08. Only one of us had cruised before so the rest of us didn
We just got home from our vacation on the Coral Princess. I promised you I would give you a review on the trip. Here it is.
Overall, the Coral Princess was a wonderful way to vacation. The ship was beautiful. Common areas, such as lounges and theaters, were well decorated. Dark wood was used on walls and furniture in the lounges. This gave a very cozy, and rich feeling to these rooms. There were two main dining rooms. One was used for the traditional, pre-assigned, early and later seating. The other dining room was for people that wanted their meals to be a bit more flexible. There were, also, two other dining rooms. One was a fine dining Italian restaurant called, Sabatini's. The other was a New Orleans style restaurant. The quality of the food in the main dining rooms ranged from average to very good. The biggest problem was that some of the food came out overdone. This problem applied to the fish, the lobster tails, and Alaskan king crab legs. Overcooked lobster tails and crab legs is definitely not desirable. However, the wait staff was very professional. They were always able to offer an alternative meal that was presented almost immediately. A point of interest, in reference to the food, is that all of the bread, cakes, cookies and ice cream were made on the ship. I couldn't believe the quality of the bread. The ice cream was decadent. Avram couldn't get enough of the sorbet. Every night was a different flavor. I think my favorites were the cherry sorbet and rum raisin ice cream. The menu was well diversified. There really was something for everyone. Every night there was a spa menu, as well as, a vegetarian menu. In addition, you were always able to order standbys of salmon, chicken, or steak.
The cabins were well appointed. We really enjoyed the balcony off of our bedroom. Storage space was sufficient, and there was no problem getting additional hangers. Jokes could be made about the bathroom's size. But, it worked. Like our waiters, our cabin steward was a sweetheart. He was attentive and efficient. Our room was always ready when we returned from breakfast or a side trip. We felt well cared for.
Entertainment on the ship was great. The ship's shows were Vegas quality. The talent brought in from off the ship was outstanding. The comedians left us gasping from laughter. All in all, we were very pleased.
Two things to be aware of: The duty free sign in the better jewelry store does not apply to the better watches, like the Movado. No one tells you that it requires a purchaser to pay a duty. It is implied that you are buying a duty free item in a duty free shop on a ship at sea...
Overall a great trip on the Coral Princess.
We learned a lot about all-inclusive resorts and what to look for. We all had such a great time at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios. We loved the honeymoon cottages and would do that again. We didn't care that our rooms weren't all in the same building because we were so close. The food was excellent. My favorite Sandals restaurant was the Arizona. They even serve dinner on the beach. The breakfast buffet every day was wonderful and the lunch buffet was excellent as well. One evening there was a beach party with a buffet and Jamaican music - very fun!!
My favorite thing about the trip was the staff. Everyone was absolutely so friendly and pleasant.
Next time we will look for a better beach. The beach at the resort in Ocho Rios was small and rocky. Also, Sandals also needs to invest in more cups...Numerous times the bar ran out of cups to serve in. That's all I can think of on the negative side.
We are already thinking where we would all like to go next year...maybe Sandals Negril.
The trip to Beaches Sandy Bay in Negril, Jamaica that you reserved for us was amazing. We all decided that we wanted to go back sometime. Everyone was very friendly and very accomodating. They were nicer in the airport in Jamaica then in the U.S. The hotel was great...good food, friendly and helpful staff. Our room was rm 5306. Not sure what block it was. Thanks for everything. You're the BEST!
I recommended you to a friend from Sioux Falls, and he's going to e-mail you tomorrow. Him and some friends are going to Vegas in March and are looking for a deal.
Thanks for booking our Windstar cruise. I am generally not a fan of cruises, and will probably only take a few on a very select basis.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the Windstar. It was small, the people were all very friendly, and the service was terrific. The food was very good, with too much to eat. Most of the main dishes at dinner were excellent with the stand-outs being the osso bucco, the short ribs, the duck breast and the steak. The fishes were ok, the tuna very good. The sashimi appetizers one night were a highlight. The breakfasts and lunches provided either a buffete or sit-down service with some very good dishes. The wine list was fairly extensive and reasonably priced.
The rooms on board Windstar were 188 sq ft but were organized in such a way that it felt larger. No problem putting away all of our stuff. Shower was terrific. There was a flat screen TV and the ship provided DVDs and I-Pods at no additional cost. We did not use any of that.
Due to the size of the Windstar ship, there were not a lot of activities as there might be on large ships. This was ok with me. We used the spa for a massage and a facial; they were ok, not great. Otherwise we just hung around the pool, the size of a tub, and read.
The casino was small, two blackjack tables and some slots. Half of the slots were broken. The dealers were delightful and the games were fun, no high stakes.
We took a number of the shore excursions. The zip-line was the highlight. Another trip into the Costa Rican rain forest was also very good. The trip in Nicaragua was long, but for me, excellent. The guide was very knowledgable. It covered a volcano, a market and a city. Other participants did not like this trip due to its length and the poverty we saw. I found it educational. The guides in all the tours were very good.
On the last day the ship docked at a wonderful beach and provided a barbecue lunch. This was another highlight of the trip.
Let me know if there is any other specifics I can provide and thanks again for your assistance.
